Connections & Special Mentions

  • Veterans and Everyday Heroes (V-EH!)

Veterans and Everyday Heroes (V-EH!) performs acts of kindness for veterans and first responders in need of support, to achieve or maintain mental and physical wellness. These are everyday heroes - correctional officers, peace/police officers, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, 9-1-1 operators and members of the military; those committed to serving their communities and Canadians. Too often there are times when these everyday heroes could use some extra kindness in their day, particularly in the face of a diagnosis of an Operational/Occupational Stress Injury (OSI), post-traumatic stress disorder, or other mental health challenges. Acting as a conduit, we deliver the collective kindness of OUR awesome community, to our heroes in need.

  • Joshua Rathwell - Call In The Choppa

Joshua Rathwell runs a free wood splitting service in Red Deer and Central Alberta, all out of the goodness of his heart. If you’re struggling to get outside, don’t have the equipment or skill set, or just don’t want to, he’ll drive over on his evenings and weekends to take care of it for you. Trees, logs, firewood - he’s your guy! This is Joshua’s way to give back to the community. To further his kindness, Josh is turning out a line of T-shirts where a portion of the sales are going to the local Outreach Centre in his community. • Well-Phoria

More than a candle, it’s an experience.

Owner and First Responder began making candles out of her kitchen. Making candles became a way for her to use aromatherapy for her own mental health wellness. She is a Reiki Master Teacher and uses Reiki techniques while she makes them. Well-Phoria’s candles are made from 100% soy wax, Hemp wicks and fragrances with no Parabens and are Phthalate Free. Not only are they an amazing and long lasting burn… but will hopefully fill your soul with the light that they bring Barb when they are being made!

“What’s Your Twenty” was honoured to collaborate with Well-Phoria to create ‘The Connection Candle’. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this candle will go to organizations with programs that benefit First Responders, Armed Forces Members, and Veterans.

  • Project Enlist: Operation Brain Health

The goal of Project Enlist is to serve as a catalyst for critical research on traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in military veterans. TBI due to improvised explosive devices (IED) and other military service-related causes is a significant problem for our active military and veteran community.

However, the scientific understanding of TBI and related disorders is in its infancy, and we lack accurate diagnostic tests for living patients and effective treatments. Service members diagnosed with TBI deserve our attention and support.

Brain bank research is an essential step in developing effective treatments for TBI, CTE and PTSD so we can protect and support the heroes who courageously fight for our nation.
